Leros is situated in the North region of the Dodecanese. It covers 52 km2 and an amazing coastline of 70 km.
8500 inhabitants live in numerous villages spread over the whole island.
Its geographical position, and the fact that you find in Leros one of the largest natural habours in the Mediterranean, has offered Leros a great historic past. From ancient times till today it has played a major strategic role in the region.
Between 1912-1943 Leros was occupied by the Italian military force, developing the island’s infrastructure and creating the new town of Lakki. Today you can visit the sites of “The Battle of Leros” fought in November 1943.
